jillis groen.
Artist Jillis Groen (1987) was primarily trained as a painter. After more than a decade of painting reasonably successfully, he decided to start from scratch again to follow his long-held dream of integrating sound and film in his work. Groen’s art is characterized by emotionally charged motifs and stories, aesthetic obscurity, and mystery. He aspires to increase the intensity of experience through the interaction of emotion, beauty, and concept.
Doing Nothing Being Everything is the working title of Groen's current main project. But in parallel to his audiovisual art practice, he offers guidance to fellow artists who want to launch their career as a painter. His vast experience has made him a valued mentor, ready to support aspiring painters.

"Jillis helped me to steer my career in illustrative work back to painting. He provided expert coaching on both the technical and business aspects of my professional comeback as a painter. With his guidance I was able to secure my membership in an art collective and find gallery representation at De Boterhal in Hoorn. I'm looking forward to more opportunities to work together."

Jillis gave me and my daughter valuable advice about the creative process. He stimulated us with insights about composition, light and shadow, and telling a story with images. His tips about choosing materials and experimenting with texture and layers really took our work to a higher level.
Jillis also played an important role in the design and presentation of our exhibition. He guided us in how to hang the works, create the right atmosphere, and give the whole exhibition a strong, professional look.
